HISTORY OF STAR FOUNDATION
The Star Foundation was founded February 2002 by Joyce H. Waller who envision a community outreach and youth mentoring program that would provide year-round interaction between youth and positive role models.
With the dedication of several volunteers Barbara McNuckles, Mike Vanderveer, Monica Truitt, Eliza Huntley, Bertha Jones, Johnathan Yarbourough, Raquel O'Bryant, Wanda Stroud, Jerond Belton, Nathaniel Waller, and the pastor and members of the Gateway to Heaven UHC, with our sincere thanks, have made this community outreach organization the community service provider it is today.
This program is now held year-round and done on a quarterly basis at Gateway to Heaven UHC, Inc, located at 513 Roosevelt Street in Durham North Carolina. Prior to this partnership we also provided services at W. D. Hill Community Center, and the UDI - Operation Breakthrough sites. Other community programs were held at the Durham Arts Council, Hayti Heritage Center, and the Zafa Temple all located in Durham, North Carolina.
We are also currently extending our program to include a afterschool tutoring, and homework assistance program. We now provide a computer lab that is open for computer courses, and meeting space used for community outreach projects.
